SKIC protects
industrial uses
from non-compatible encroachment.

South Kern Industrial Center (SKIC) Specific Plan and Environmental Impact Report (EIR) were approved by the Kern County Board of Supervisors for heavy industrial uses and is protected from encroachment by residential, recreational and other urban uses. SKIC was sited in the southwest portion of Kern County because of its close proximity to transportation facilities, utilities and agricultural resources and the desire to locate heavy industrial uses downwind and away from urban centers. Other than the existing industrial development within the specific plan area the property is surrounded by agriculturally-zoned land, which is compatible with heavy industrial uses.
